The Bistro That Set Connecticut's Table

Founded in 1990 by James O'Shea and the late Charles Kafferman, West Street Grill brought high-end modern American cooking to the Litchfield Hills, and has been a landmark on the Green for over 35 years.

James, an Irish-born restaurateur with deep roots in New York's dining scene, gave the Grill its mix of sophistication and heartfelt hospitality. The emphasis is on local, fresh, simply prepared dishes made with the most sought-after ingredients. In the early days James drove to New York's fish and vegetable markets himself; today fresh fish still arrives daily and local produce leads the menu.

Guests know the Grill for its classic presentations, like the Smoked Atlantic Salmon served under a glass dome and the Parmesan Aioli Peasant Bread. The kitchen blends showmanship and timeless appeal, complemented by the proprietor's select wine offerings, and welcomes vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free guests without compromise.

Across from the Green

In the heart of historic Litchfield, the Grill sits directly across from the Green. French doors open onto café tables in the warmer months; inside, a bistro room of warm wood, a cozy bar and black-and-white charcoal drawings tells the story of its heritage.

Hospitality First

Rooted in James's Irish heritage, the Grill pairs warm, inclusive hospitality with uncompromising standards. Every guest is greeted like a regular, whether it is your first lunch or your hundredth dinner.
