CHEF PIERGIORGIO NANNI
Chef Piergiorgio Nanni has taken the helm in the kitchen at West Street Grill in what promises to be a delicious partnership with WSG owner James O’Shea. Born and raised in Rome, Chef Nanni learned to cook from his mother and aunts at a young age. In his early 20s, he moved to New York City to work at Il Valletto, the restaurant of his uncle Luigi Nanni, a pioneer in introducing authentic Italian cuisine to America in an era when Italian food was expected to be heavy and loaded with marinara sauce, garlic and mozzarella. After working at Il Valletto for three years, Chef Nanni moved to Paris to attend Le Cordon Bleu , graduating with honors in classical French cuisine and pastry. Upon graduation, he worked at several upscale restaurants throughout France and Italy, developing his own personal style and technique. Chef Nanni returned to Manhattan to serve as executive chef of Il Valletto, where he was awarded by the Federation of Italian Chefs The Chef Della Migliore Tradizione Regionale Italiana in America, which is given to chefs as an acknowledgment of their exceptional work to preserve the Italian culinary tradition in America. After his uncle’s passing in 1998, Chef Nanni worked as a chef and culinary arts instructor throughout New York and Connecticut and has been featured in Cucina Italiana, The New York Times, Connecticut Magazine, The Connecticut Post, Intermezzo Magazine, The Darien Patch, The Darien Daily Voice, The Stamford Advocate, Westport Magazine, Greenwich Magazine, and New Canaan & Darien Magazine. He was also previously the Executive Chef of the Goose American Bistro and Bar in Darien. He lives in Connecticut with his wife and two children.
James O’Shea and Charles Kafferman launched their now "legendary boite" with a focus on New American cuisine on May 28, 1990. Back then the Litchfield Hills were judged by some as a "culinary backwater." From the beginning, West Street Grill brought the flair and polished cuisine of a four-star restaurant to a region just discovering its taste for fine dining. With O’Shea and Kafferman on hand to offer a warm, friendly welcome to guests from all walks of life, West Street Grill has over the years become the favorite restaurant of anyone who likes to dine well and appreciates the gorgeous atmosphere, including sought-after al fresco tables overlooking the historic Litchfield Green. Come for a casual lunch, a fun dinner of bistro-style fare like wild Maine mussels and three-cheese ravioli, or a more formal dinner with expert wine pairings, and learn about the exciting new things happening this year.
